Background: As a member of the White House Office of Legal Counsel, the analyses by Yoo and his colleagues led to many of Bush's most controversial policies, from the detentions at Guantánamo Bay to the warrant-less wiretapping program.Who: John Rennie
What: The 2006 Scientific American 50, a tally of the year's top contributions to science and technology, will be discussed.
Background: A Yale University graduate, Rennie worked for several years at Harvard Medical School and as a science writer before joining the staff of Scientific American in 1989. Five years later, he became only the seventh editor-in-chief in the 161-year history of the magazine.
